What’s the Difference Between Grant Writing and Grant Consulting?

Author: Dr. Rielly Keyser, DrPH

When it comes to grants, not all support is created equal. Some firms offer “grant writing,” others offer “consulting,” and some (like us) offer both. But what’s the difference?

Grant Writing is all about execution.

We take a specific grant opportunity and build a compelling, funder-aligned proposal—narratives, budgets, attachments, and all.

Grant Consulting is strategic.

It involves assessing your funding goals, identifying aligned opportunities, evaluating eligibility and competitiveness, and providing feedback or coaching throughout the process.

So, which one do you need?

  • If you already have a funder or RFP in mind: Grant Writing

  • If you’re still exploring your options or need help deciding: Grant Consulting

At The Grant Writing Firm, our team offers both — and we’ll help you determine the best path forward based on your needs and capacity.
